Computational Fluid Dynamics

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used to solve engineering problems from low-speed flows involving the coldest fluids on earth, to hypersonic aerodynamic problems where the temperatures involved far exceed the temperature on the surface of the sun.

Centauri’s team of CFD experts work closely with our customers to understand their needs from a system perspective in order to provide the best CFD solutions possible at the speed of relevance.

Our Approach

Centauri has significant experience, capabilities, and tools to develop CFD solutions to solve our customers problems. We bring a variety of CFD codes to bear to cover a virtually unlimited range of cases including propulsion related flows, microgravity simulations, rotary wing configurations, conjugate heat transfer (CHT), unsteady flow, flow with moving bodies, and supersonic & hypersonic flows.

In addition, we perform basic research to advance the state of the art in CFD modeling. We use and create structured, overset, and unstructured grids to meet our customer’s needs. Recent efforts have involved parachute modeling, volcanic ash ingestion into gas turbine engines, and the development of wall models for coupling Large Eddy Simulations (LES) with CHT solvers.

Advanced Weapons Systems & Analysis

Centauri leverages our expertise and experience decomposing the adversary threat and developing asymmetric measures to counter these systems. Our engineers develop and design test vectors that exercise their user equipment's (UE) real-world performance in challenged environments (rather than performance found in a specification sheet). We provide in-depth analyses of subsequent UE performance within these environments. This enables the defense community to understand the effects of emerging threats and to develop contingency plans in advance of operations to ensure warfighter success.
